Are You a Coachable Small Business Owner?

Throughout the course of my day I talk to small business owners about new ideas, challenges, business growth and development, and just he economic culture surrounding business today.

Sometimes I run into people who have owned their business for many, many years. They are extremely knowledgeable in their business but yet there's something missing.

Many of them don't know how to compete in today's market. Many of them don't even want to learn how to compete in the market today. Many don’t want to reach out and be willing to learn more about what is missing from their business.

What I do know is much of the small business atmosphere is quickly changing.  More business is going online every day. Even as abrick-and-mortar shop owner, you must be flexible and visible online. You must be willing to compete in many avenues of Marketing.

You must be coachable in business and be willing to learn.

It's easy to put on the blinders and just keep doing what you're doing when it comes to advertising and marketing your business.

Those blinders are called that for a reason.

·        They you from hide new techniques and new methods.

·        They hide you from new customers and clients that may be looking for someone just like you online.

·        They hide new business growth.

It's easy to say you must be coachable and willing to learn. But in all honestly sometimes it's tough to learn new methods; to try something different and new; to stay on top of the changes in the marketplace and learnt o react to them effectively.

But there are many people who are willing to teach, share, and train you in methods that have been effective and are imperative to stay competitive in the marketplace.

·        Take a class

·        Attend a webinar

·        Attend a seminar

·        Buy new business books\

·        Read and absorb new business methods from those business books

·        And most of all, don't be afraid to try something new.

Be Open to New Ideas

While you may have been in business a long time and you know whole lot that you can share with others, be open to new ideas. Stay coachable and let other information and techniques work to your favor in business.

Take those blinders and throw them in the trash. While transitioning to a different style of business marketing may be difficult, the results can be highly favorable.  Go with the flow because you never know where it takes you.

And don't forget to use all of your knowledge in positive ways. Maybe you can mentor someone who's killing it in an online business in exchange for information on new or different online marketing methods or other tools you may not be using.

Why not look for a new article, a how-to book, schedule an appointment with another business owner, take a class on something you want to know and learn today. Stay coachable in business and be open to new methods and ideas. Business is ever changing. Yours can too.
