We work hard on our content. Boosting our webpages with descriptive words that enhance our reader’s experience. Adding descriptions for images with our alt tags that tell the search engines what the images and the content is about. Correlating keywords throughout our website. Adding articles to our blog on a regular basis.

But once the articles are published and you have sent it through social media and done some public promotion of your post, is that it for that article? After all, now that it is indexed, hopefully that the topic is on point enough to start to pull in traffic for you.

One of the things that your site is graded on is the age of your site. So having content that is been indexed for a long time is a positive for ranking.

We talked about refreshing our images and articles for SEO before. It’s a well-known fact that Google and other search engines do appreciate all content that is been updated and refreshed. Tweaking and changing to add new ideas, updating new thoughts and images. You are breathing life into that old cached post again.

This also gives you the opportunity to share and re-share content that content again too. With all that great content, it's also a great idea to reuse it as well.  You can use your articles in so many different ways that will make your original thoughts work hard for you.

So how can you recycle your old content?

Start with posts that bring you great traffic. This is sometimes referred to as “evergreen” content. It is solid topics that continue to bring traffic because it is written with a timeless component.

Once you identify those solid traffic producing articles, you can recycle them into many different ways that will work hard for you.

New Articles– start a series of articles around that topic. Expand on the original thoughts. If it was a list format article, break down each portion of the list, and so on.

Videos – You can use old content and breathe life into it with video.  YouTube is a fabulous extension of your social media and website. Show your reader what your topics is about and extend the thoughts.

e-books – You can expand the topic and create ebooks that you can offer for sale on your site. Bundle several articles together for a powerful ebook loaded with info.

Webinars – use that content to teach others. Create an info heavy webinar that offers info and tips your followers would love. Great way to reach new followers to your blog and social media too!

Freebies – Expand an article into a freebie to use as a gift for signing up for email lists or as a thank you for purchasing ebooks, etc.

Infographics – If your post is data rich, create an infographic that others can use and share too.

Podcasts – Many popular podcasts start from blog posts. Find guests that would be interested in conversing on the topic to share tips and info.

Email Series – Recycling your content in to an email series is a great way to reuse that content.

Social Media Teasers- use portions of an article to share through social media. Mini tips or thoughts can become great memes, tweets, etc.

Once you have a solid post or article that is bringing you traffic, continue to build off of that to expand, recycle, and re-purpose for longer life on your site and through social media.
