5 Tips to Increase Productivity from Your Home Office

If you telecommute from your home office or when you run a business out of your home office, then you probably know some challenges that can come about, causing issues with productivity. Distractions, loss of focus, time management issues abound. Some people have a tough time working from home. 

However, all is not lost! You can be productive while working out of your home office, if you get tough. With more and more entrepreneurs opting to run their business of the house, there are a few tricks that can help. Here are some tips that may work for you.

Absolutely use a to-do list or calendar for your day.

It's easy for time to slip away so make sure that you do the most important tasks first in the morning when you're fresh. 

Curb interruptions by setting office hours just like you would in an office setting.

Let your family know your hours. Let friends know. Be diligent about sticking to your schedule. This includes going to get the car worked on or running to the doctor in the middle of the day. Schedule in an afternoon, as needed, so you can get errands completed all in one shot. 

Make sure to set up a specific office area that you work in.

Not only is that good for tax purposes but it also signifies to family members when you're in that area or room you are at work and should only be disturbed when absolutely necessary. 

If you telecommute or work out of an office, make sure to schedule time in the actual building for meetings and interacting with other coworkers, whenever possible.

Not seeing the boss or other coworkers on a regular basis can actually be in an out-of-sight out-of-mind issue. Be in regular contact via phone or email, if physically being in the building once in a while is not possible.  This will resolve issues with miscommunication and building teamwork. 

Learn how to utilize tech skills

You must be comfortable with using programs like WebEx, GoToMeeting, Dropbox, Google Docs, and similar programs. That way you can converse with clients and cohorts, plus access your files or work together with team members. Not to mention accessing files and docs anywhere you are through mobile capabilities.

These 5 tips can help you, if you are diligent. Use calendars, timers, or any tools necessary to help you stay on task. This will allow you to get the work out in a way that is effective, plus lets you to build and grow the business you deserve and desire.
